The TERMINFO environment variable controls that. If set, terminfo stuff is
read from the directory it is set to. If directory does not exist or
TERMINFO is not set terminfo stuff will be retreived from /usr/lib/terminfo
or /var/lib/terminfo dependent on the OS version.

Again this is not where the problem appears to be. I have tried various
different terminfo sources from various different UNIX machines
with no luck. 

Every time it beeps at me I want to *bash* it.
