I had the same problem with my 16MB Creative Banshee, and only got it working
this weekend on my Red Hat 6.0 system, by downloading the X Server and Setup
utility from the following site:
http://glide.mirrors.sonic.net/3DfxRPMS_vb_glibc.html.

I have previously tried earlier versions of the same SVGA server, but with no
luck.  This version (3.3.3.5) installed like a dream, (instructions on the
above page) and worked perfectly after running the supplied XF86Setup utility.
