The 8900cl has no hardware support for more than 8 bit color.

some of the later similar cards did have hardware support, but never had
even dos or windows drivers for 16bit color. Only the more recent tridents
have 16bit color support.

I strongly recommend getting a 2 meg S3 card - they are very cheep.
