NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR:

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for maintaining the company?s technical operations. This
includes maintaining the network, servers, workstations, printers, copy
equipment and telephone equipment.

Specific Duties:

1. Maintain company?s Linux servers
2. Maintain the internal network as well as external link
3. Maintain printers and copy equipment
4. Maintain fax machines and fax server
5. Maintain telephones and PABX
6. Support internal network users

Skills Required:

1. Windows 2000 product experience
2. Windows NT experience
3. Microsoft networking experience
4. Extensive Linux administration skills including:
· Debian installation and kernel compilations
· Apache web server installation
· Advanced firewalling and network security
· SMB file sharing
· SQL database management
5. Excellent organisational skills
6. Excellent oral and written communications skills
7. Excellent problem solving/analytical skills
8. Willingness to acquire and learn new skills as the company develops

Job Requirement (education, experience, certifications, etc.):

1. MCP and MCSE or equivalent
2. 3-5 years of Linux administration experience

LEAD DEVELOPER:

Project Outline:

The Shuttleworth Foundation is initiating an open source project to
provide momentum for the ongoing development of computer software that
will make a significant difference to education internationally. The
system will initially focus on school administration. It is an 18 month
contract position, thereafter there will be the possibility of further
employment with Here Be Dragons (www.hbd.co.za).

Job Responsibilities:

1. Help select the best programming language for this project.
2. Identify the best technologies for addressing aspects such as data
replication, load balancing, distributed deployment, caching, security,
enabling off-line work, maintaining documentation, etc.
3. Work with a Junior Developer and a Project Leader to design and
develop this application and integrate it with other initiatives
addressing education system requirements.

Skills Required:

1. Experienced in developing three-tiered enterprise applications.
2. Outstanding analytical skills.
3. Linux or Unix.
4. Extensive experience with SQL.
5. Object Oriented Analysis and Design methodology.
6. Ability and willingness to quickly learn new technology that might be
required.
7. Willingness to establish consensus about approach and design
decisions.
8. Open source project skills ? written communication, respect for
others, providing good service to users, showing appreciation for other
people?s contributions, etc.
9. Wide knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies in the IT
field.

Job Requirements (education, experience, certifications, etc.):

1. Degree in computer science or application development, or equivalent.

2. At least two years? object oriented development ? C++, Java, Python,
etc.


Optional Skills (Not Required):

1. XML, XSL, XSLT
2. SOAP, CORBA, RMI
3. Java 2 Enterprise Edition
4. Web development
