Hi,

I can't help with why the network card is not detected properly, but you
could try and load the kernel modules (i.e. drivers) manually.

As for the failed install, how much RAM does the 486 have? I had the some
thing recently installing rh 6.2 on a 486, and after increasing the RAM
from 8mb to 16mb, the install worked fine. Signal 9 is apparently "I'm
outta RAM!"
