| RE: GLUG: Exchange Client headache |
Yo... Methinks your problem is not that you are being firewalled, but that you do not have client software for getting microsoft proxy to do anything useful for you. The microsoft proxy thing is like the SOCKS proxy, but proprietary and possibly secret too. To make it work on Windows machines, last I looked, you have to install a MS-Proxy TCP/IP stack. If this is your problem then, possibly: . possibly microsoft has out-proprietried you . possibly you may be able to get your boss to install a real proxy/firewall/gateway (e.g. linux) since microsoft may work, but it doesn't work well beyond microsoft. . possibly you can find a linux client for ms-proxy (it appears that one exists. It may work to some extent) (on the ms-proxy CD??) . ms-proxy may be providing a real web server proxy (ie. something like squid), which you can use for Netscape and wget and things like that. . ms-proxy may just be providing a SOCKS proxy (they are rumoured to, but it may cost more...) Yet another reason why you-know-who does you-know-what &:-) On Thu, 10 Aug 2000, someone (possibly Mangiola Nunzio Datavia) said: > The firewall is blocking port 25 and to add to my frustration I can't > even use Netscape over our micro$oft proxy. -- ~ }#.!} -- /usr/sbin/pppd !@*#!@! -- /usr/share/fortunes/obscene.dat R$+@$=w -- /etc/sendmail.cf
