Let me kniow if the ctrl-alt-del thing worked.

Download the source for statserial... very simple and can be hacked
over an over again. The amount of things that can be done from the serial 
port is amazing. (Other than doing data transfers ;) )

Read the /usr/doc/HOWTO/mini/Coffee.  Very entertaining. 

Never forget that old matrix serial printers are fully functional, remote controlled 
servo's for making robot arms.
