RE: GLUG: Linux, Unix Training

There is some truth in that, I yet again repeat my earlier statement though,
any training can become infinitely more valuable if it goes along with
experimentation.
This is perhaps even more true on Linux, the simple fact is, that whatever a
course teaches needs to be considdered a starting point, and what you
discover while playing fills in the gap. All my courses in networking taught
me the theory behind running a DNS server, in the end I spent all of last
night before I got one running the right way on my own machine, (HOWTO in
hand) and learned a lot of things that I didn't know before. My advise thus
remains, go on a course, and then take whatever you learn and try to find
out what else it can do - by playing with it. That is not only a good
practise, it's half the fun.

I agree
competency = demonstrated skill
skill =
knowledge[comprehension of theory] x[multiply{not add}]
application(experience)

courses = information
// information != knowledge

The ultimate is to be a continuous (self)learner:
acquiring knowledge & applying it on something,
and be most blessed when you can find a buddy with similar interest.

my 50c of opinion [I see the price has gone up]
