| linux, Oracle 8i & Dell |
hi list. linux: RH6.2 kernel 2.2.14 oracle: 8iR2 (8.1.6) for linux iron: Dell 6300 with dell/adaptec 4 channel RERCRAID (hardware) raid controller. problem: Dell supplies the driver as a single *.o-module file, i.e. is _not_ open sourced. Dell has a few versions of these this file available, each certified for a different "official" RedHat kernel. (2.2.14-5.0smp, 2.2.14-6.0smp etc.) I need to customise the kernel for Oracle by tweaking the shared memory setup in the code (as per oracle instructions). I _don't_ want to spend $$$2500 on the RH "Enterprise edition". Whenever I recompile the kernel i get version and symbol conflicts when inserting Dell's module at bootup. (I need to boot off the RAID) Any ideas???? Where can I get the original Makefiles that Redhat used to compile these "official" kernels. Or can I dismantle their module to figure out how to complie my kernel? cheers, Kobus Jooste
