Hi there, I'm new to this list although not that new to linux (I'm using it since '94 starting with Slackware, then Debian, RedHat and currently SuSE 6.0). I had my box connecting to the internet nicely through a dial up connection at the time when I had my private e-mail with mweb. But when those people upgraded their modems to V.90 there side all of a sudden refused to let me in (in Pta or Jhb - I could always log into their Durban number - long distance :-( ). I moved then over to yebo and connecting through micros~1 works most of the time. There is a silly string that I have to send across - something like "yebo/12345678@yebo" instead of a username. My appologies if this has been discussed already - but you must admit, the archive of messages is just too big to read through all the messages. Nevertheless, I found that Theunis de Jongh has got his account with yebo as well. To cut a long story short, this is what happens: My setup script dials in, negotiates, and then the modem hangs up. Sometimes I find in the /var/log/messages AUTHENTICATION ERROR. I believe those special characters like "/" or "@" are messing me around. I've obiously tried to type in my username as well as the 8 digit number in between the those funny chars, but with no success. Any hint, that solves my problem is highly appreciated. With best regards, Christoph J. Schneebacher
