Re: GLUG: Instalation of Corel Linux

Title: Re: GLUG: Instalation of Corel Linux

I had exactly the same problem with the same card ... I ended up installing RedHat 6.2 instead, which picked up the card fine and works 100% ... although only up to 800x600

I think one needs to use an older version of X for this ... I know it was discussed here before but I didn't pay much attention ... Till I actually ended up with one.

Can anyone remember what the fix was again?

Tnx,

Andre

Re: GLUG: Instalation of Corel Linux:

I had problems during instal because it did not seem to recognise my video card - SIS 6326 W / 8mb.

Most of the fields in the various screens during instalation were black - no text at all. I managed to get Linux installed however by a bit of guess work.

However most of the fields are still black in the windows page - ie Start shows icons on the left but black fields next to them. I have no idea yet what the icons mean so it is guess work again.

I do not see how I can  download the correct driver when I am unable to setup my Internet Connection. Can I do it with Windows - Linux is on my second hard drive (all by itself) but Windows does not see it !!.

Please tell me what to do?  The Console seems to be working OK but I have no clue how to use it. I bought Linux to learn to use the Console !!.

Hoping you can come up with some assistance
