| Re: GLUG: File system problem |
Hi Andries When it asks "run fsck manually", look up a few lines to see which drive/partition it's giving the problem on, eg. it might say something like : /dev/hda2 : unexpected consistency, run fsck manually or something. In this case, you must basically type "fsck /dev/hda2", although I'd recommend typing "fsck -y /dev/hda2" to prevent having to answer yes to all the "fix?" questions on your own. Then type "exit", it'll reboot and should be fine after that. Then introduce your flatmate to the "Ctrl-Alt-Del" key. -Paul On Wed, 03 May 2000, Andries Nel wrote: > Hello, > > I am a new subscriber to the Glug list. My careless MS loving flatmate switched it off to boot up win98 without shutting down properly. Now when I try to boot RH6.1 it indicates a file system problem (unattached inode...), says that I have been dropped into a > shell, should run fsck manually and enter root pwd to do repairs. The prompt refuses to accept my root password. Running fsck also doesn't seem to help (not that I am claiming to be running it properly). > > Any advice much appreciated. > > Andries > > _____________________________________________________________ > Get email for your site ---> http://www.everyone.net > --- > To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe glug" in > the body of a message to majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx -- ---------------------------------------------------------- From Mr. Bogus (pgr@xxxxxxxxx); hiding place - reality. ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ucs.co.za/~pgr/ (011) 712-1438 / (082) 652-3232
