BeOS and Sound conf on linux and modem conf on linux

Hi all.

First of all. Wow BeOS is the fastest OS i have seen yet. I installed it
on my work machine 500MHz, 128MB ram. It didn't detect my screncard and
it used 50% of my cpu to draw the screen but. Wow the teapots span at a
rate of +-20 fps. That's impressive. It booted up in a few seconds. Just
a warning if your motherboard uses UDMA hard drives then go into bios
and disable UDMA, if that fails then press and hold the spacebar in
when the kernel boots, then select the safe mode options and select
disable harddrive dma. That should work.

Secondly. To install a simple sound card at the command prompt type in
pnpdump >/etc/isapnp.conf then edit /etc/isapnp.conf and remove all the
hashes in front of the lines with brackets in it. but please first check
you do not assign two irq's to the same device. You should also remove
the hashes next to the lines with ACT Y in it. This is to make sure
that it is enabled. After that at the command prompt type in isapnp
/etc/isapnp.conf if everything worked out your pnp devices should work
sound and stuff. Then at teh prompt type in cat /dev/sndstat it should
show you when the soundcard has been correctly configured. if all else
fails rtfm or rtfmp ie man isapnp.conf

Thirdly. The modem. I am not an expert on this field but for internal
modems check that again you have set up isapnp.conf and then use Xisp or
kppp or whatever app of your choice and use that to connect. also check
that /dev/modem points to somethin like /dev/cuaX. If however you've got
an external modem check that /dev/modem points to /dev/sttyX where
X=0=com1,X=1=com2 etc......

upta upta upta upta that's all folks.
